Selby Mill team member named ‘Apprentice of the Year’

ForFarmers’ Selby Mill apprentice, Patrick Conlon, has been awarded the prestigious Apprentice of the Year Award in the 2023 Selby Business Awards.

Organised by Selby District Council, the awards at the Rivermills Ballroom attracted a substantial number of high-quality nominations, reflecting the calibre and diversity of businesses which operate in the area. Apprentice of the Year was one of the most hotly contested categories, with a shortlist of five excellent candidates.

Patrick’s success is a result of his dedication and hard work and reflects the role the team around him at Olympia Mills has played in supporting him. Having undertaken almost all his studies in the tricky learning environment of Covid, Patrick, whose father is also a member of the Olympia Mills team, has proven himself both adaptable and skilled.

"It was a great event,” said team leader, Kallam Ware-Wilkinson. "Patrick is a great lad and works so hard. He thoroughly deserves this award. Patrick being nominated was a big thing for the site, and a great chance to celebrate the achievement of one of the team means a lot when you hear the stories of the other nominees.”

Patrick’s apprenticeship mentor and site Engineering Electrician, Gary Liley, supported Patrick with his learning and qualification. Gary, who won the same award himself 22 years earlier, said: "Seeing Patrick up there was brilliant. He's made such an impact at site and he will really go far.”
