Maintenance Technician – Portbury – Full Time – Perm

What will you do?

As a Maintenance Technician you will form part of the Engineering team at our Portbury site to support in the meeting of production demand providing breakdown cover whilst the Mill is operational. The successful candidate will perform routine maintenance and emergency engineering work to ensure efficient plant operation minimising down time. You will work with the Production team to identify limiting factors and reoccurring problems within the process whilst ensuring that all equipment is safe to operate under normal operating conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To respond to faults on the control systems and other plant faults by carrying out necessary repairs.
  • Cover for other technician’s holiday and sickness within the rota.
  • Ensure that all engineering work is carried out in line with Health, Safety and Environmental legislation that the work area is left in a clean and tidy state after completion of the work.
  • Carry out Risk Assessments prior to commencement of work, where appropriate.
  • Carry out routine engineering maintenance and project work as required. Assist contractors where necessary with installation of new plant.
  • Monitor weighing and liquid metering performance and maintain plant within agreed tolerances.
  • Ensure satisfactory completion of plant inspection schedules and planned maintenance. Support and recommend changes to the Engineering Manager/ Site manager to eliminate reoccurring faults.
  • Ensure that all current Health and Safety issues and safe working practices are adhered to.
  • Generate order lists to replenish engineering spares as necessary.
  • In the event of breakdowns, ensure that the plant is operational before leaving site.
  • Ensure that site services are operating as required and that building fabric is adequately maintained.
  • Contribute to Mill team effectiveness through co-operation and good communication with Site Staff.
  • Take part in training activities that the Company deems necessary to be either part of the job or an additional requirement.
  • Ensure workshops and stores kept in clean & tidy condition.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the Site Manager to ensure the site is adequately maintained.
  • To ensure a safety first culture operates on site and ensure that all company rules and statutory requirements are adhered to.

Implement plans and perform the required activities to ensure compliance with PPC permits and Environmental/ Energy management systems.

Your CV shows:

  • A recognised maintenance qualification in electrical / mechanical discipline.
  • That you have worked in an engineering role within a production / Fast Moving Goods Operation including unsociable hours.
  • Be able to operate in varying climatic conditions for long periods. Be able to work under pressure and make reasoned decisions. Have a professional attitude to the job
  • Must be numerate and possess basic keyboard skills. Work on one’s own initiative. Strong problem solving and communication skills.
  • To be able to work rotating shifts, and be able to change shifts at short notice.
  • Also work to a rota including regular weekend work.
  • Electrical bias with strong fault finding background, must have 18th Edition Electrical Qualification. BS7671;2018
  • Be proactive in nature and willing team player.
