Kitty Smith has joined ForFarmers as a Youngstock Technician in South Wales and North England as the company continues to build its knowledge and services in these areas.
Kitty will be focusing on enhancing youngstock performance through weighing calves and heifers and creating bespoke feed plans and colostrum protocols. An important part of her role will be helping farms reduce their milk production carbon footprint by working towards an age of 24 months at first calving.
“Being born into the agricultural industry and growing up on a mixed beef, sheep and arable family farm near York I developed a keen interest for farming,” Kitty explains. “After attending Harper Adams University I worked on several different calf rearing units, both beef and dairy. While working on a dairy unit in South Wales I was introduced to the ForFarmers calf monitoring process which I found so interesting and helpful in meeting our goals. I am thrilled to have joined the youngstock team here at ForFarmers.”
With calves and heifers being the future of every herd, ForFarmers are well positioned to help manage best results in this early stage to secure the future prosperity of the herd.
Ann Coombes, ForFarmers Youngstock Product Manager says: “Youngstock often have the best genetics in the herd and have the biggest potential to drive future efficiency, profitability and sustainability.
“Our Youngstock Technicians offer a Target 24 service and can help with the correct management protocols, nutritional plan and a weighing regime that tracks progress and highlights any issues before they become a problem.”
