I joined ForFarmers in 2020 as the Regional Supply Chain Manager for the South, then more recently moving into the Operations Director role for Pig, Poultry & Leisure. My role is quite diverse, and I am prominently responsible for manufacturing and logistics within PPL. This also includes fleet, logistics planning, technical, engineering, projects and the QUENSH team (Quality, Environment, Safety & Health), with the majority of these being shared services between both PPL and Ruminant OpCo’s.
Why did you join ForFarmers?
For me I missed being part of a manufacturing environment, so was eager to find a role that not only gave me that opportunity but also provided variety. What really stood out for me was ForFarmers values and the ambition for positive change within the business and its operations to meet our customers’ needs.
Working at ForFarmers as UK Operations Director for pig, poultry & leisure, tell us about a typical day at work?
Every day is different, the supply chain has a variety of different elements, so inevitably there can be some challenges whether that be operational, service or driving efficiency with my site teams and stakeholders.
One minute I can be having discussions around production issues and needing to move volume to other sites, then the next, focusing on service, fleet replacement, or any inbound raw material challenges which may arise.
But in a typical day I always speak with my team, review the status of the operation, service, operational opportunities, and any challenges.
What is your favourite part of the job?
I am fortunate to work with a fantastic team, their energy, passion, and tenacity is a real credit to them and certainly inspirational to myself. A collaborative approach is key for supply chain success with support from end-to-end, without that we would not be able to provide quality products and a high service level to our customers!
What are you currently focussing on in the business?
We have recently come out of game season and reviewing ways we can improve in preparation for next year, at this time of year we have also started ramping up for turkey season.
I am also collaborating closely with the commercial team to proactively increase volume, ensuring the supply chain can react positively when new business is gained, or when there are any demand increases from our current customer base.
