Transition from placement

Sian Southwell, Retail Account Manager (PPL)

“I joined ForFarmers in January 2020, after completion of a placement year from Harper Adams University in 2017/18, as a Retail Account Manager”

“I gained a valuable insight into how ForFarmers works, the different departments and developed key working relationships with colleagues before I returned in 2020.”

My Role Now

“I look after a variety of customers from producers rearing rare breeds like Iron Age pigs to some commercial herd units all over the UK, ensuring they are getting the best out of their business.”

A Typical Day

“Each week is never the same! Being able to improve specific goals on farm with the customer such as growth rates and feed intakes, is something I thrive off!”

“I check emails in the morning, track orders and keep up with the latest raw materials trade to advise our customers best on what the market is doing.”

“I travel to see and meet customers covering areas from Dorset to Northumberland building relationships, getting out on farm to check how the pigs and chickens are getting on, whilst ensuring our products are performing as well as they can, and in line with the producer’s specific goals.”

Focus on customers

“A current project that I am focussing on is how we can better serve those customers on the smaller scale of who we work with, like our traditional farm businesses.”

“Looking at ways we could better tailor our proposition and our service as a whole.”

Working as a team

“Working at ForFarmers is great as there is a vast range of expertise and knowledge you can learn from and share with each other.”

“Colleagues are always only a phone call away!”
