Emma Sudron, Customer Service Operator

Tell us a little bit about your background?

While I don’t come from a farming family, I had a rural background and a mutual friend who worked at ForFarmers suggested I apply for the role. I’ve previously worked in customer service roles but I was attracted to ForFarmers as I wanted to work with like-minded people and learn more about the agricultural industry.

What do you like about working at ForFarmers?

Right from my first day I felt very comfortable as the team were so friendly and welcoming. It’s a very supportive place to work and if there is something that you are interested in, they always encourage you to explore it and take ownership of it.

During my time at ForFarmers I have become quite involved with Marsdens, our game feed side of the business, as this was something I’m particularly interested in. There is also the opportunity to develop your role and take on new responsibilities. This is something that I really value, as it gives me the chance to challenge myself.

What does your role involve?

As with any customer service role, there is a lot of variety. Primarily I am here to look after customers, taking calls and orders from them, as well as dealing with any queries or chasing deliveries. This means I spend a lot of time liaising with colleagues in planning, production, and transport to ensure we are getting results for our customers.

In my role, it is very important to have an interest in farming and an understanding of the challenges that farmers face. Ultimately, we are always championing the customer’s needs and ensuring that we come to a solution, even when things don’t go to plan.

What do you like about your role?

I am a people person so I love talking to people and building relationships. Working with the farming community is something that I really enjoy too. Farming can sometimes be a lonely game, and so it is nice to chat with our customers if they want to and build connections with them. I also really enjoy being able to get out and about to meet people face-to-face when we get the chance, as a lot of our work is over the phone.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I live in a rural area in Dumfries and Galloway, and I love the lifestyle that comes with that. I really enjoy spending time outdoors, whether that is with my dogs, hill walking or just enjoying nature. At the weekends we like to explore different areas from the mountains and Galloway forest to the beaches. I also like to go camping whenever I have the opportunity.
