Buddug Jones, Executive Ruminant Specialist Beef & Sheep Team North Wales & Cheshire

Tell us a little bit about your career so far?

I have been working for Farmers since 2011. I started in telesales on the Agridesk Wales in Denbigh Mill’s Office, before moving on to become an Account Manager in 2015.

What does your role involve?

My day-to-day role involves visiting farmers, silage testing and ration calculations. I sell mostly beef and sheep products, but also visit dairy farms to do costings and weigh youngstock. A big part of my job is also looking after two large agricultural merchants and supplying them with any advice, product information and visiting farms on their behalf.

What do you like about working with livestock farmers?

Every farmer has their own goals, and it’s up to us to try and help them meet those goals, which can be challenging but also very rewarding.

How have you continued to develop your career?

Since starting on the Agridesk role 13 years ago, I have tried to progress within the business. I have pushed myself to learn more and to be out of my comfort zone in order to represent ForFarmers. The agricultural sector is changing all the time, and it’s up to us to change with the times and meet the needs of the company and our customers.

What do you like about working at ForFarmers?

Every day at work is a different day. You can never plan your day as something else creeps up. I love going out meeting farmers, some of who are now more like friends than customers.

How do you spend your time outside work?

When I arrive home from work, it’s straight out farming myself. I love being out with my husband Sion and kids Ela (9) and Dico (7) on our beef and sheep farm. My husband also trains sheepdogs, therefore there is always work to be done with the young dogs and pups

In my spare time I coach the U10s girls rugby team in Bala. I am also part of the Corwen Shears committee, an international shearing and woolhandling competition held every year with competitors from all over the world. Last year, the event and its organisers were featured in a BBC programme called ‘Rockstar Shearers’ - check it out on BBC iPlayer.
