My average day really depends on what time of the month or year it is.  If it’s at the beginning of the month it is a real team effort to finalise the numbers and produce the UK financial and management reporting packs.  During the final weeks of a month it’s time to deal with projects, identify areas of improvement and spend time with the team.  It all ramps up at the end of the year when it’s time to produce the Group and UK figures, it’s an incredibly busy time of the year but one of my favourites!  

It’s a really collaborative role and what makes it enjoyable is how passionate everyone is; the camaraderie, enthusiasm and energy of the team really does makes it a positive environment to work in.  We are given the autonomy and trusted to get on with individual pieces of work but have the support of the wider UK and European team if we need it.  All working towards a common goal.

Feeding the world

Being part of the agricultural sector is fascinating - after all we are feeding the world!  ForFarmers strategy of Total Feeds and working in partnership with farmers whilst continuing with an underlying sustainability sits very well with my social compass. Not only that, ForFarmers is ambitious, forward looking and keen to invest in the people within the organisation.

ForFarmers run a series of management training courses, such as the Management Foundation Program.  It helps to focus on key management skills and it is an opportunity to meet and learn from other managers in the business that you might not usually have contact with.  The ACCA qualification requires continual professional development which means I am always keeping my financial and broader accounting knowledge up-to-date.
